According to a rise in national income, the new lifestyle cultural code is proceeding with leading the social air current by managing life abundantly and beautifully through combining the body and the mind organically. As this change is reflected, the interest in the field of health industry is getting higher. And, there is an outlook that the biomaterial and health industry will take the lead in the global industry in the future.

With gearing into this background, Chungcheongbuk-do province designated bio-health industry as No.1 ranking in the regional-innovation intensive promoting field from the year of 2000, and is concentrating on fostering it as the core strategic industry of leading the regional development.

This center was established in June of 2001 in order to take the lead in developing bio-industrial technology related to health, which is the strategic industry in the 21st century, based on the organically cooperative system among industry, academy, research institute, and government, and entered Phase 3. This center has ceaselessly strived to contribute to reinforcing the regionally industrial foundation and activating the regional economy along with forming Osong Bio-health Science Technopolis.

This center aims to implement infrastructure on research & technology, which are required for developing pharmaceutical substance·new-functional food·bio support, which are the core fields in the bio-health industry that was formed through Phase 1, and pursued the centralization and high technology in research & technology in Phase 2 based on the results of research. As the current Phase 3 is the one of commercializing the independent brand, and is the one of developing into the central base in R&D and industrialization in the sphere related to bio-health industrial field, it is aiming at the industrialization in the regionally-characteristic independent brand, the stabilization in production foundation, the globalization in the fundamental technology, the independence in regional economy, and the central base in bio-health industry of Osong Bio-health Science Technopolis. From the long-term perspective, it will elicit the continuous pharmaceutical candidate substance, develop this into drug and functional food, integrate bio-resource technology, induce quality upgrade and mass production, and progress the transfer of technology and the research of commercialization. Also, the aim is to perform the commercialization role in the project of “Biotopia Chungbuk” by developing this based on connection with the regional enterprises in Chungcheongbuk-do province.
